Badges
What is the difference between the CanSkate and Learn-to-Skate programs?

In the CanSkate program, skaters rotate between coaches during each session and can earn badges (Stages 1 through 6).  This program is designed for skaters who have an interest in pursuing an ice sport.  This is a Skate Canada National Program.  Each session runs for 60 minutes in length.  Skaters also have the option to participate in our annual carnival show, Flashing Blades at the end of our season.  This program runs from October to April.

The Learn-to-Skate program teaches the basic skating skills in a large group environment.  Groups can be larger than the CanSkate program depending on registration.  This is not a badge program.  This is a community based program, not a Skate Canada National Program.  Each session runs for 30 minutes in length.  This program is offered in the Fall (Oct-Dec) and Winter (Jan-April).

Star Skate
STARSKATE:  (Skills, Tests, Achievement, Recognition)

The introductory level for all figure skating programs is the Star 1-5+ program.  This program is intended for skaters who have passed Stage 6 of the CanSkate program.  Skaters are placed in groups according to ability.  Group instruction and supervision is provided by professional coaches.  Skaters will develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of stroking, ice dance, skating skills, free skate and interpretive skating.  Skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Tests through a nationally standardized testing system.  Availability of program is subject to registration.

Off Ice Training:  Off ice training is a vital part of the sport for skaters at the Star level and above.  It provides an individualized conditioning, fitness, and endurance program and is recommended for all Star skaters.  This program is scheduled before or after each ice session (see schedule).  Off ice programs are included in the fee structure for skaters Star 1 to 5+.

Youth Syncrho
SYNCHRONIZED SKATING:

Youth:

This program is available to skaters under the age of 18 (subject to sufficient numbers).  Practices will be weekly on Sundays, time to be determined.  All Youth Team skaters are encouraged  to skate in a regular skating program at least one additional day per week.  Skaters are required to be CanSkate Stage 4 or higher before skating Synchro.  All club programs Star 1 and up require 2 days of skating minimum.  Synchro encourages all skaters to continue to grow and skate their regular programs twice a week as well as one day of Synchro if possible.  Competitions will be determined based on the progress of the team.  This will entirely depend on the number of skaters interested and the level of their skating abilities.  Yearly registration fees will be determined by the number of skaters who participate.
