Starskate is the introductory level for all figure skating programs is the Star 1-5+ program. This program is intended for skaters who have passed Stage 6 of the CanSkate program. Skaters are placed in groups according to ability. Group instruction and supervision is provided by professional coaches. Skaters will develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of stroking, ice dance, skating skills, free skate and interpretive skating. Skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Tests through a nationally standardized testing system. Availability of program is subject to registration.

This program is unique to Canada and instills the love of skating in participants, allowing them to further develop their skating skills. It has been a cornerstone of Canadian figure skating for more than forty years.

When a skater registers for the STARskate program, they also become a member of Skate Canada, which has many benefits, such as:
